Dhaka Cafe Attack
An attack on a cafe in Dhaka, Bangladesh has left 28 people dead in a hostage situation after terrorists created a hostage situation Friday night. The number of terrorists that entered the cafe is currently unknown, but investigators are estimating between 6 to 8 gunmen entered the cafe with explosives and various firearms. Terrorist organization ISIS has claimed responsibility for this attack, adding another brutal crime to their growing list of mass murders.
Istanbul Ataturk Airport Attack
Three terrorists armed with bombs and guns targeted Istanbul's Ataturk Airport Tuesday, opening fire and killing 42 while injuring 239. The attackers arrived by Taxi and “exploited the light security at the entrance to the arrival’s hall”, eventually arriving at the international terminal building.
Two of the terrorists detonated their bombs, while the third was shot down by a security officer in the parking lot. At least 13 of the victims are foreigners, coming from the varying countries of China, Uzbekistan., Jordan, and Ukraine, respectfully. Investigator’s are currently examining CCTV footage to determine the identity of the attackers. Tourism continues to plummet in Turkey, in light of the rise of ISIS and the continuing refugee crisis.
“Brexit” Week Two
Controversy continues after Great Britain's vote to exit the European Union (EU) last Thursday, leading to rising debates about the potential economic, social, and political changes that may arise by the poll result.
Following the vote, various studies have been conducted on the accuracy of the voting predictions, as well as the long lasting impact of Great Britain's decision.
There are slight fears regarding the plans for further foreign investment and growth, as voiced by United States President Barack Obama. The conflicting views on the subject are set to continue in the coming weeks, as the processes involved in this “Brexit” are sure to remain a descension.
Transgender Military Acceptance
Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter on Thursday has finally granted permission for transgenders to openly serve in the U.S Military. Transgenders had previously been able to serve in the armed forces, but in strict secrecy to avoid discharge.
Additionally, Secretary Carter has stated that the Pentagon will cover the cost of those in the military to go through with their gender reassignment surgeries.
Wildfires in the West
California and Arizona continue to burn within the continuing drought. The so called “Erskine Fire” has so far caused two deaths and hundreds to evacuate their homes as the fires continue to ravage the state of California. The wildfire itself is being blamed on Marijuana Farms in Northern California and has become increasingly difficult for firefighters to put out.
The California Drought, having begun in 2011, is increasing its strain on the environment and people of California, as the lack of rain continues to cause an overwhelming need for water in the state.
